The Ancient Town at a glance

Hoi An Ancient Town is a historic trading port in Southeast Asia, listed by UNESCO since 1999. The heritage area covers about 30 hectares on the north bank of the Thu Bon River near its mouth, with a buffer zone of 280 hectares. Most of its buildings date from the 15th to the 19th century and combine local and foreign influences.

You can wander the lanes and the riverbank without a ticket, according to a local guide. The houses, halls and museums are what the fee covers. Because the fee system is being changed in 2026, treat every figure here as a stated rule, not as a promise of what the counter will charge on your day.

Hoi An Japanese Bridge

The Japanese Bridge is the best-known landmark of the town. A restoration of about 19 months ended in 2024, and the bridge reopened to the public on 3 August 2024. Reliable daily visiting hours and any limits on entry are not published, so look at the signs at the bridge or ask at the nearest ticket point.

Phung Hung House stands directly west of the bridge, and a local guide reports ticket checks at the bridge end. If the bridge is crowded, the old houses nearby give you somewhere to go while you wait. Do not plan a fixed time slot around it.

What to know before you arrive in a car or in the rainy season.

Pedestrian zone times

In March 2026 the heritage administration listed a core zone for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles from 09:00 to 21:30 in summer and from 09:00 to 21:00 in winter, with Phan Chau Trinh Street from 17:30. A local guide still gives split windows of 09:00 to 11:00 and 15:00 to 21:30. Have a taxi or Grab drop you at the edge of the zone and walk the rest.

Floods

Floods hit Hoi An in October 2025, and visitors were evacuated. On 10 November 2025 the heritage administration said that many central areas, museums and monuments were ready for visitors again while other sites were still being cleaned or repaired. October and November are the months to watch, so check local news before you travel.
