Hoi An weather in short

Hoi An sits on the central coast, and its year has two clear halves. From February to April it is warm and comparatively dry. From September to December the rain is heavy, and October is the wettest month by a wide margin. Summer is the hottest stretch, with average highs above 93°F (34°C) in June and July.

The figures below are climate averages for 1991–2020 from the World Meteorological Organization's World Weather Information Service, taken at the Da Nang station (16.08° N, 108.22° E). They are a regional reference for Hoi An, not readings from a Hoi An station. They describe what is typical, not what will happen on your dates.

What each season means for your trip

No month guarantees dry days or calm seas, so keep your plans flexible.

December to February: mild

Highs are around 77–79°F (25–26°C) and lows near 67–69°F (20°C). December still gets 10.7 in (272 mm) of rain on average, while February is the driest month of the year.

March to May: warm and drier

March and April rainfall averages 1.4–2.0 in (36–50 mm), and highs climb from 83°F to 92°F (28°C to 33°C). This is a comfortable stretch for walking the old town and for day trips.

June to August: hot

June has the hottest average high at 95°F (34.9°C). Plan outdoor visits for the early morning or late afternoon. The Da Nang tourism portal recommends March to August for An Bang beach, but local weather, currents and closures override any season.

September to November: wet

Rainfall rises from 15.5 in (394 mm) in September to 25.9 in (658 mm) in October, then 19.1 in (486 mm) in November. This is the flood season. See the next section.

Flood season in October and November

The old town sits near the Thu Bon River, and flooding is a known risk in the wet months. On 28 October 2025 the Associated Press reported flooding in Hoi An and the evacuation of tourists. On 10 November 2025 the heritage management office said that many central areas, museums and monuments were ready for visitors again, while other sites were still being cleaned or repaired.

On 8 October 2026 heavy rain triggered flash floods and landslides in Da Nang, with more rain warnings the next day. That tells you about the region, not about whether the old town, My Son or the Marble Mountains were open on a given day. Check conditions with your hotel or guide before you go.

If you travel between September and December, choose a flexible booking, keep a day free for rain, and see our where to stay page for how location affects access. No area of town can be called flood-proof.

Beach and sea conditions

In early October 2026 Da Nang advised swimming only in guarded zones, following warning and ban signs, and staying out of the water in bad weather, in dangerous currents or when lifeguards have left. That advice covers the city's beaches in general. Coastal protection work was also under way near An Bang and Cua Dai in September 2026. Read the An Bang Beach guide before you plan a beach day.

The old town holds its lantern night on the 14th night of each lunar month. See the lantern festival page for dates.

Where to look next

If your route goes north, compare with the weather in Hue. For cycling through the fields outside town in the drier months, the bike tours around Hoi An have their own guide. For arrival logistics in the rain, see Da Nang to Hoi An.
